Frequently Asked Questions
How long do the free screening and initial assessment take?
The screening takes about 10 minutes. The initial assessment takes approximately one hour. You will need a computer with access to a microphone. For best results, complete in a quiet room without background noise.
What is the difference between ESL (English as a second language) courses and Accent Modification courses?
Accent Modification begins where ESL courses end. In ESL courses, the emphasis is on learning vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing, whereas typical Accent Modification clients have already acquired a basic mastery of English. Those interested in accent modification are seeking to improve the accuracy, clarity, and intelligibility of their spoken American English.
What can I expect from the program?
Course offerings include a 7-week or 12-week program, depending on the severity of one’s accent and the number of error patterns observed. Sessions are one hour long and are conducted weekly via Zoom. Clients who commit to daily practice can expect at least a 50% improvement in their spoken American English.
How will I reduce my accent?
The United States of America is one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world. Many people emigrate to this country seeking growth, freedom, and economic opportunity. However, one’s primary language influences the way English is acquired. When a person learns English as a second language, the English-speaking environment might facilitate some improvement, but improvement is limited until there is an awareness of one’s specific error patterns. This is precisely how Accent Modification services provide value. Once clients gain awareness of their specific error patterns, they are empowered to correct their own errors.
How much does it cost?
Course packages are discussed during your free consultation. Payment for the full program includes cost of materials and lifetime access to our online practice lab. While full one-time payment is preferred, an installment plan is also available.
I have a busy schedule and I work full-time. Is the course schedule flexible?
This course is designed for busy professionals, which means we work around your schedule! Courses are conducted remotely via Zoom, allowing you to learn in the comfort of your own home or workplace. During your free consultation, a course schedule will be established that best suits your needs.
If you prefer a self-guided course, please join the waitlist here and be the first to know when the course becomes available! This will entail pre-recorded modules specific to your native language. Clients can navigate the course at their own pace. Currently, courses are being developed for Spanish and Vietnamese native speakers.
My employer is sponsoring my course. Will you provide updates on my progress?
Many employers find accent modification courses incredibly valuable for their employees seeking to reduce their foreign accents for professional advancement. Your instructor will provide initial evaluation results, a mid-course progress report, and a final report. The final report will include an initial/final assessment comparison, percentage improvement score, and individualized suggestions for continued practice.
How can I maintain what I learned once the course is complete?
As with any new skill, consistent practice and a commitment to lifelong learning are the keys to success. For this reason, all clients are granted a lifetime subscription to our online practice lab which includes speech exercises and an auditory feedback system. Clients find this to be an invaluable tool for continued success long after they complete the course.
For those who have completed the course but would like to continue to hone their skills via live feedback, monthly consultation sessions are available.
